A 16 year old made a lucky escape after he was assaulted and robbed while riding across the old Mandurah Bridge late last month.

Around 1.00pm on Friday the 23rd of September 2011, the youth was riding his bike in a northerly direction along Old Coast Road in Halls Head towards Mandurah when he approached the Mandurah Estuary Bridge.  As he rode across the cycle path on the lower part of the bridge he passed two males who appeared to be fishing when for no apparent reason, one of the males punched him and dragged him from his bike.  The youth was dragged to the ground and repeatedly punched in the face by one of the males while the other acted as a lookout.  During the assault the male ran his hands across the youth’s pockets in search of valuables, locating a Samsung mobile phone.  The male began to search through the youth’s backpack but stopped looking when he was disturbed by a female approaching on a bicycle.  The male released the youth who was then able to escape on his bike.

Detectives have released a composite image of the principle person of interest in the hope that someone may be able to identify him.

The male is described as:

  • Tanned complexion
  • 18 – 20 years
  • Short blonde hair
  • Solid muscular build
  • Green eyes
  • Approximately 190cm
  • Wearing a muscle shirt.
