An 86 year old man in Maylands was conned into believing two thieves were council workers doing routine checks.

At approximately 3.30pm on Wednesday the 16th of October 2013, a male knocked on the door of a house on Richard Street in Maylands and stated that he needed to check the back yard for leaking pipes. The elderly man thought he was a council worker and walked around to the rear of his house to let the male in through the side gate. Once out the back the male started stomping on the ground and talking with the man keeping him occupied but the elderly man heard noises coming from inside his house. He went inside to investigate further and noticed through the front door a white coloured dual cab ute parked out the front of his house. He continued through to his bedroom where he was confronted by another male holding a crow bar. The male pushed the elderly man to the ground and the two males ran from the house.

Investigators believe that the two males have been knocking on numerous doors in the Maylands area pretending to be council workers or asking people if they need work done to their property. They have also possibly been handing out leaflets.
