A

woman’s plan to hand over counterfeit notes without detection backfired when a clever shop attendant alerted her manager of the suspicious finding.

Around 2.30pm on Thursday the 14th of April, 2011, a woman dressed in a distinctive red top entered the Reject Shop at Northlands Shopping Plaza in Balcatta, selected $121.00 worth of products and proceeded to the register.

On completion of the transaction, the bank card presented to secure the payment was declined due to insufficient funds, triggering the woman to hand over two counterfeit $50 notes.    The unusual texture of the forged notes led the attendant to inform her manager about the peculiarity, prompting a call to police.

Police have released an image of a woman taken from CCTV footage in the hope that she may be able to assist with inquiries into the investigation.

The woman is described as:
  • Fair complexion
  • 35 – 45 years
  • Solid build
  • Long bleached blonde hair
  • Wearing a distinctive red top and carrying a distinctive brown handbag.
