A routine night at worked took a bad turn for a taxi driver after he was assaulted and pushed to the ground by his passenger.

At around 11.30pm on Sunday the 18th of September, 2011, the taxi driver collected his fare outside a popular night club on Murray Street, Perth. A male passenger jumped in the front with a female jumping in the back. The male with an Irish accent requested to be taken to an address in Yokine. The male soon became abusive when he accused the taxi driver of purposely taking a longer route. The driver politely asked the male to stop otherwise he would stop the car however the male continued to swear and abuse the driver. Reaching his limit, the driver pulled into a nearby service station and asked the couple to exit the taxi and pay the fare they had clocked up. The taxi driver confronted the male, who was now even more agitated and refusing to pay the fare. The male threatened him with violence but suddenly snapped and pushed the taxi driver before pulling him towards the ground and kneeing him in the face, causing his nose to bleed and leaving him with swelling and bruising.

Police have released CCTV footage of a male who they believe can assist with their inquiries.     

The male is described as:

  • 22 – 28 years
  • Irish Accent
  • Slim build
  • 170 – 180cm
  • Short dark hair.
