Detectives are on the hunt for the male whose deceit turned an honest car viewing into an opportunistic car theft.
Around 6.00pm on Wednesday the 1st of August, 2011, the owner of a grey Nissan sedan received a response to local advertisements from an interested male requesting to view the $25,000.00 vehicle. Identifying himself by first name of James, the male arranged with the owner to view the vehicle for sale, attending the Beechboro address thirty minutes later. On viewing the vehicle the male requested to take it for a test run, agreed to by the victim who rode beside him in the front passenger seat. After a 15 minute test run the male drove along Waratah Avenue where he asked to see the engine. Both men exited the vehicle with the owner opening the bonnet for the male to look under. A few minutes later the male entered the driver’s seat and as the owner of the vehicle prepared to shut the bonnet, the male drove off leaving the vehicle’s owner on the side of the road.
Police discovered the vehicle abandoned outside a Wanneroo address with front end damage and the stereo missing. Detectives have released a composite image of a male in the hope that someone may be able to help identify him.
The male is described as:
- Light complexion
- 25 – 30 years
- Approximately 175cm
- Slim build
- Short black hair
- Dark eyes
- Wearing light grey track pants and a black tracksuit top.
