A Hazelmere business has been left with a hefty bill after an excavator and other equipment worth more than $100,000 were stolen from their yard.
Between the hours of 5.30pm on Wednesday the 24th of August, 2011 when staff at the the yard locked up and 9am opening hours the next day, unknown offender/s attended Ground Support Services on Talbot Road, Hazelmere. The offender/s removed the barrel lock to the main gate to gain entry to the yard and once inside stole a 5.5 tonne excavator worth $75,000. Also stolen were three loader buckets worth a further $15,000 and a comprehensive two way radio system and fire extinguisher. The total value of the stolen items is in excess of $100,000. The well prepared offender/s would have required a flatbed truck or similar to drive the excavator away from the site.
Police are hopeful the initials of the company being “GSS” along with a mobile number painted on the back of the cab in Brunswick green colour may help people to assist in identifying the stolen excavator. Any sightings of the excavator should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

- Hyundai Excavator
- 5.5 tonne
- Model R55-7 Robex
- Along with three front end bucket attachments
- Total value over $100,000
Police are appealing to anyone who may have any knowledge of this offence or know of anyone who may have come into possession of a quantity of new rings to contact Crime Stoppers.
