Thanks to the strong response by Goldfields residents, the recent Crime Stoppers WA Dob in a Dealer drug campaign has given police considerably more intelligence leads for solving drug crime.

The number of reports from Goldfields residents rose by 82% during the campaign, and still continued at a good rate a month after the end of the campaign period, according to Crime Stoppers WA Ltd CEO Kim Harrison.

The Goldfields Dob in a Dealer campaign, launched in Kalgoorlie and Esperance in July, urged members of the community to confidentially report any information they know about crystal methylamphetamine (‘ice’) and other illegal drugs being sold by drug dealers.

“Goldfields residents provided some great information across various drug categories as a result of the Dob in a Dealer campaign,” said Mr Harrison. Our thanks to all those who reported their concerns on the criminal acts of drug dealers.”

The information received by the Crime Stoppers contact centre has been passed onto police investigators for action.

There is a strong connection between methamphetamine usage and crime rates, especially crimes against property, theft, burglary and assaults.

Mr Harrison said the figures continue to highlight the crucial role the community plays in tackling crime.
“Information from residents leads to arrests and real results when it comes to breaking the cycle of crime,” said Mr Harrison.

Residents can continue to report information confidentially to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
