Crime Stoppers WA Dob in a Dealer drug campaign designed to stop the rise of methamphetamine trafficking across the Pilbara has given police new intelligence leads.
The Dob in a Dealer campaign, launched in Karratha in April, calls on the members of the community to confidentially report any information about trafficking of methamphetamines or ice.
During the campaign, there was a 60% increase in the number of reports received by Crime Stoppers from residents in the Pilbara region about people selling methamphetamine and other drug activity.
The information received by the Crime Stoppers contact centre has been passed onto the police for further investigation and action.
“Intelligence about drug activity across various drug categories has been identified as a result of the Dob in a Dealer campaign,” Crime Stoppers WA Ltd CEO Kim Harrison said.
There is a strong connection between methamphetamine usage and crime rates, especially crimes against property, theft, burglary and assaults.
Mr Harrison said the figures continue to highlight the crucial role the community plays in tackling crime.
“Information from residents leads to arrests and real results when it comes to breaking the cycle of crime,” said Mr Harrison.
