Residents of Ashfield are bewildered at the thoughtless actions of an arsonist who deliberately set fire to the playground at the Ashfield Reserves, causing $40,000 worth of damage and leaving families without a place to play.

During the early hours of Tuesday the 10th of July 2012, FESA was called to the playground at Ashfield Reserve on Guildford Road, Ashfield, to see the entire playground engulfed in flames.

Climbing frames, slides, rope bridges, tunnels flooring and shade sails were in complete ruins.

The timing of the incident couldn’t have been worse with damage to the playground rendering the structure off limits to local children over the entire July school holidays.

Police would like to talk to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious occurring at the location leading up to and following the arson attack.
