A deliberate act of damage caused by a fire has left the owners of a garden nursery in Northam with a $40,000 damage bill.

At some stage between 2.00am and 2.50am on Tuesday the 3rd of April, 2012, an unknown offender cut a hole to the bottom of the fence to the garden centre on Ensign Dale Place, Northam. Once inside the yard the offender/s tipped over a jerry can filled with fuel and lit it up. The ignition quickly spread fast burning plastic pots, fibro sheets, dynamic lifter, a lawn mover, whipper snipper and a selection of potting plants. The fire also caused extensive damage to the shade cloth, fence and mulch.

Thankfully a passer-by noticed the fire and ran to a nearby service station to call the Fire Service.  The actions of this person allowed the fire to be extinguished before any major damage was caused to the building and structure.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have any knowledge of this incident to make a report online or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, where all calls are strictly confidential, and rewards are offered.   Please quote Reference Number 5999.
