A trio went to extraordinary lengths recently when they snuck behind a betting counter undetected to grab a betting voucher which they later cashed in and pocketed $1700 cash.

At around 11am on Monday the 24th of October, 2011, the three males were at a hotel on Marine Parade, Cottesloe. The males used the opportunity whilst a female bar attendant was at the other end of the bar, to swing into action. Highlighting their knowledge of the betting process, they filled in betting slips, placed them into the machine, and without handing over any money for the bet one reached around the counter and accepted the bet on screen. All the while the third male was acted as a look out. A bet of over $1000 was placed on a particular race before all three left the hotel. A review of CCTV footage later revealed the antics of the three.

Further inquires revealed that the race won some two hours later, where the male with the dark hair attended a Palmyra store to cash in on his winnings, but not before changing his shirt and placing on a cap and sunglasses in an effort to change his appearance. He managed to profit over $1700 for his efforts.

Police have released images from CCTV footage of two males who they believe can assist with their inquiries.

The first male is described as:

  • Medium build
  • Dark complexion
  • Short dark hair
  • Wearing sunglasses on his head, a black t-shirt with graphics on the front and jeans.

The second male is described as:

  • Fair complexion
  • Bald head
  • Wearing a polo style shirt, jeans and sneakers.
