A network of businesses in Riverton recently worked together to successfully alert each other of a male committing fraudulent crime within the shopping complex.

At around 1.30pm on Tuesday the 18th of October, 2011, the male attended a jewellery store within the Riverton Shopping Complex. He selected a gold bracelet and charms and attempted to pay for it with his credit card requesting to sign for the item as he claimed to have a sore hand and said that his signature would be a bit scratchy. Automatically suspicious the store manager requested he return the next day with the cash. When the male left the store a store manager from another jewellery store within the centre advised the manager that the same male has previously used a stolen credit card in their store. The bank was contacted and the card was confirmed as being stolen. The stores quickly engaged a neighbourly response by letting the other store know about their incident, it quickly came to light that the male has committed the same offence in an electronics store also.

The next day when the male returned to collect his bracelet the store manager requested an additional form of identification. Maybe sensing their suspicions the male claimed he had left his wallet in his car and walked out towards the car park. Diligent staff followed him out hoping to gain a registration number of a car however the male immediately ran off.

Police have released an image from CCTV footage of a male who they believe can assist with their inquiries.

  • 183cm
  • Tanned skin
  • Medium build

  • Wearing sunglasses on his head, a dark jacket over a dark t-shirt with white logo, dark jeans and black boots.
