McCallum Park in Victoria Park WA where unknown infant was located

A tragic find inside a Swan River foreshore rubbish bin nearly 21 years ago has police still searching for the mother of an unidentified male infant.

The infant’s body was discovered in McCallum Park, an open area of park land bordered by Taylor Street, Canning Highway, the Causeway and Swan River by a man who went to use the bin around 4.00pm on June the 23rd 1993.

When the deceased infants body was found wrapped in a bag the man immediately sought assistance from two men who were playing tennis on nearby courts who contacted police.

An examination of the scene revealed considerable effort had been made to conceal the body which still had the placenta and umbilical cord attached.

A strong media campaign at the time attracted a Good Samaritan who championed the cause for a decent burial and gravesite.   Following the publicised funeral service this person was contacted by a female identifying herself as Natalie – the mother of the deceased infant. Despite extensive inquires this person has never been identified.

Detectives are hoping that this website release will encourage new information relating to the identity of the infant’s mother.
