At about 11:20am on Friday 9 October 2015, a man was walking along Northwood Drive, Dianella when a dark coloured vehicle pulled over and a man approached him. The man got out of his vehicle and asked the victim for a cigarette and cash.

The victim told the man that he didn’t have either cigarettes or cash. The man returned to the vehicle and was handed a wooden pole from another occupant of the vehicle. The man struck the victim once to the head with the pole forcing the victim to fall to the ground. The man returned to the vehicle and left the area heading east along Kokoda Boulevard, Dianella.

The victim was conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital with a serious head injury as a result of the assault.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man and who they believe can assist them with their inquiries.

The man is described as:

  • Dark skinned
  • 28 to 32 years of age
  • Solid build
  • Approximately 180cm tall
  • Shoulder length black hair with bleached tips, stocky
  • Wearing a black t-shirt with a red logo on front and dark shorts.

The vehicle is described as a dark coloured sedan.
