The manager and staff of a liquor outlet in Southern River followed a male from the store after confronting him minutes earlier about failure to pay for two bottles of alcohol concealed in his carry bag.

Around 4.00pm on Friday the 4th of May 2012, the male could be seen loitering around the spirit section of the store where he selected two bottles of Jim Beam whiskey and placed them into a large tool bag he was carrying.  The male proceeded towards the exit where he was confronted by the store manager who requested that he return the liquor he had taken.  The male denied knowledge of the theft and continued walking past the manager and other staff members who followed him to a nearby shopping centre where he exposed a hammer from inside his bag and delivered threats triggering the staff members to retreat.

The quick thinking staff member used his phone to take a picture of the male as he boarded a bus headed in a northerly direction down Warton Road.

Police have released an image of a male in the hope that he can assist with inquiries into the incident.

The male is described as:

  • 185cm
  • Aged mid 20’s
  • Short dark hair
  • Wearing a dark jacket, dark coloured t-shirt with a large logo in the centre, dark trousers and shoes
